ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
L’Espace Sauvanie offers 5–7 day residencies for musicians who need something increasingly difficult to find: time, space and the freedom to see where an idea might lead. We welcome emerging and established musicians from France and further afield to develop new work, explore an existing project or collaborate with someone new. The residency takes place here in the Dordogne countryside, with a large, light-filled studio, exceptional natural acoustics and very few reasons to rush.
Past residents have included jazz, folk, classical and cross-cultural musicians from Europe and beyond. Many have met and played together for the first time here, sometimes taking the work in directions that neither artist had anticipated. That element of discovery is important to us. A residency does not need to arrive with every outcome decided in advance.
What We Provide
Accommodation & local transport
Six nights’ comfortable accommodation and local transport as needed.
Creative space & equipment
Rehearsal time in our large on-site studio, basic recording and audio equipment, and a quiet environment in which to work.
Everyday practicalities
A fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi and access to the gardens.
Time away from the work
In summer there are two swimming pools and plenty of space outdoors. Not every useful part of a residency has to happen at a music stand.
The Venue
Residencies take place at L’Espace Sauvanie in the Dordogne countryside, with a light-filled studio, natural acoustics and mature gardens immediately outside. You can see more of the studio, accommodation and setting on The Space page.
Collaboration
We are particularly interested in collaborations between musicians who have not worked together before. If that appeals, we can discuss possible pairings and are equally happy to consider your own suggestions.
There is no requirement for the collaboration to arrive fully formed. In fact, part of the pleasure is allowing enough time for it not to.
What We Ask in Return
During the residency, we ask artists to give one performance for a small local audience at L’Espace Sauvanie. We organise the concert, and ticket income helps support the continuation of the residency programme.
Where appropriate, we may also be able to explore additional performance opportunities with local venues, but these are not a requirement.
2027 Residency Applications
We are now planning our 2027 residency season and welcome applications from musicians looking for dedicated time to develop new work, explore a collaboration or take an existing project somewhere new.
